Services & Benefits
Internal Startup Meeting
At the start of each project, members of the Westwood Mechanical team conduct an internal startup meeting and a pre-job subtrade meeting which involves the participation of the purchaser, project manager, project coordinator, estimator, site foreman, and contract administrator. This early review of the project outlines critical project elements, heads up items and issues, a review of the design intent, and forms the preliminary basis for the start of each project. These initial meetings are followed by an in-depth review of the drawings, specifications, and addenda by the site foreman and project coordinator to help flush out additional questions and concerns early on.
Critical Project Correspondence
Our critical project correspondence process has proven to be extremely effective in preventing future issues. All critical project correspondence (including shop drawings, equipment delivery dates, RFI’s, project changes, equipment electrical requirements, deficiencies, etc.) are recorded, tracked, and communicated to the team on a regular basis.
Changes
Maintaining open lines of communication throughout the project helps to identify issues early on so that the potential for project changes is significantly reduced and ensures costs associated with any changes are kept to a minimum.
Design Assist Capabilities
As part of the integrated project delivery team, we understand the level of expertise and commitment required to take a design from conception to completion. We take pride in our track record of success in Integrated Project Delivery and Design Assist experience in a number of high-profile projects.
Material and Labour
The pricing on work done by our Own Forces is done within our estimating software, which will calculate the material and labour costs. Nationally recognized industry standards are used in calculating material costs and labour hours. Material costs are derived from the Allpriser Price Catalogue and labour hours from Harrison’s Pricing Service- COMM PHCC. Automated pricing updates are done regularly as per industry standards. The labour hours for items not priced by the estimating program, including specialized material and equipment, are estimated by using past experience for similar type of work and are based on RSMeans cost data.
Competitive Tendering and Sub-Trade Pricing
Westwood Mechanical will also bring our expertise to assist in developing a comprehensive Tender Package for competitive mechanical sub-trade pricing on Ventilation, Insulation, Fire Protection, Testing and Balancing, Controls, Refrigeration, Geothermal and Site Services as required. We will evaluate the tenders on price, quality, and experience. We will propose an open tendering process for the selection of subtrades.
Major Equipment
Purchases of large equipment including chillers, heat pumps, boilers, heat exchangers, air handling units, etc., will be done through a competitive tendering process. Westwood Mechanical does not have ties to any one supplier, which allows us to acquire multiple, competitive quotes from a variety of equipment manufacturer throughout the region.
Building Information Modelling (BIM)
We have long standing experience with estimating and other computer technology and look forward to working on more BIM modelling projects, which to date, has been limited in Manitoba. We currently use experienced consultants to collaborate on BIM projects. We understand the process and will work with the construction team to ensure the required results.
